Brief Description of self: I am an artist who loves to play with color and texture.
Long Description of self: I am a printmaker and book artist. I love creating layered prints on paper and fabric. I am inspired by textiles created by indigenous people.
Project Name: Block Printed Accordion Book.
Project Description: “You Are The Key” is an upcycled project from a wooden photo album. I took the album apart and block printed directly on the wood. I also printed on paper to created an accordion for the inside of the book.
Medium & why: I have been upcycling things for many of my projects due to the pandemic. At the beginning of the pandemic, there was a lack of access to supplies so I started to use what was available to me.
Favorite part of the creation process: I love to play and discover new ways to improve how I print and make books.
The most challenging part of the process: The most challenging part is knowing when to stop and declare that the work is complete. I always want to add more.
Inspiration: I recently had the opportunity to make the key to the City of Hyattsville for Mayor Hollingsworth. Because I printed directly on the key and loved the effect, I wanted to print on other items made of wood.
How creativity betters my life: It brings me joy and peace.
Advice to other aspiring artists: My advice is to do what you love no matter what anyone else thinks or says about your work. I know it is hard to get lost in criticism but you have to follow your heart and have fun.
