Brief description of self: Just an anxious but resilient 19 year old artist with a passion for weird art.
Long Description of self: I have always been interested in the arts…When the pandemic hit in 2020, I went through a really rough time. I was supposed to graduate highschool that year. Nothing really worked out the way I had planned it. Art is what helped me through that period of my life. I was able to start my own Instagram art account and Etsy shop. I started to explore different mediums and styles. I got to see myself grow as an artist. My work has been described as a sort of goofy macabre. Halloween is my favorite holiday so I draw a lot of weird little skulls and creatures. But I take pride in drawing things that are strange and unusual. Real life is boring so why not make weird art?
Project Description: I painted this piece, Spooky Mushrooms, this past spring. Two toxic little mushrooms just vibing deep in the forest.
Medium & why: This piece was done with acrylic paint on canvas. I felt I would be able to accomplish the look I was going for the most successfully with acrylics.
Favorite part of the creative process: Line work is my favorite part of the process. I feel like that can either make or break a piece and its really satisfying to see when my work all comes together at the end.
The most challenging part of the process: Coming up with ideas is a big challenge. I often find myself having art block because of it.
Inspiration of this creation: I kept seeing all these cool little mushrooms on my hikes and I just had this great urge to paint them in my style.
How creativity betters my life: Creating gives me confidence and a strong sense of individuality. Art has gotten me out of really dark places.
Advice to other aspiring artists: Just put yourself out there and create what you love! Even if you think your art is weird or repetitive, it doesn’t matter because the only opinion that matters when it comes to your art is your own.
